Harmonization of terminology and notation
Regarding a common terminology for syntactic annotation, we decided to
concentrate - in a 1. round - on standardizing categories rather than
structure, and leave focusing on the latter to a 2. round. As a point of
departure, we will use the cross language VISL set of categories, since
it represents a coherent solution, that has been extensively discussed
in a similar context and applied to teaching treebanks in many languages
(and also simply because there is no obvious international standard
alternative in the field of syntax).
Eckhard promised to send material/links on the VISL terminology (done
22/3), whereafter there will be time for a discussion of the proposal as
such (advantages and disadvantages) and possible additional
(sub)categories, spoken language categories or the like. Deadlines are
1/6 for agreeing on a set of categories, and 1/9 for implementing it on
the Sophie data.
