Course Content: The goals of the course are to provide knowledge of structural variation in human languages and of how syntax interacts with semantics and pragmatics in a grammatical perspective on language. The course contains a description of linguistic phenomena in simple clauses from a functional perspective. Parts of speech, word order, tense/aspect/modality and voice are examples of language phenomena dealt with. When the syntax of these phenomena is described, their semantic and pragmatic characteristics are taken into account.
